With temperatures expected to reach triple digits today, a dozen New Orleans public pools threw open their doors this morning to help residents beat the heat — and to provide recreational and work opportunities for children across the city.
The facilities, many of which were damaged in Hurricane Katrina, are staffed by Red Cross-trained lifeguards, and most will be open seven days a week, officials said.
In addition to the eight pools that were open last summer, residents can cool off at the following newly rehabbed sites: A.L. Davis Pool in Central City, Sam Bonart Pool in the Lower 9th Ward, Joe Brown Indoor Pool in eastern New Orleans, and Taylor Pool in Hoffman Triangle.
