I’ve been so excited about the great possibilities of the New Orleans Food Co-Op that will open its doors soon to New Orleans! I just wanted to share more information with you!
The New Orleans Food Co-op is a community owned co-op, full line grocery store. The store is located on St. Claude Avenue and will bring affordable and healthy food to the neighborhood, with much of the food being locally or regionally produced. Not only are we getting great food, supporting our state producers, but promoting energy conservation.
NOFC mission: is to open and operate a community-owned grocery store that:
• provides access to healthy food at a fair price
• is a center of community activity
• promotes local and regional food production
• keeps capital and jobs in our community
• practices environmental responsibility and sustainability
• reflects our unique and diverse community
The great thing about Cooperative Ownership is that it gives the community the opportunity to be owners and take part in the decision-making process. The community gets the chance to make great decisions that can help their neighborhoods become healthier and have the ability afford good food.
The benefit of being a NOFC member is it provides an opportunity to participate and be a part of a true democracy. Owners are also eligible to receive a small percentage to total amount of what they spend in the store each year, if store is profitable. Owners receive special discounts, free classes and more.
